Tim Briggs
About
Tim Briggs grew up in Ohio. In the early 1970s, he began as a singer-songwriter performing his music at The Adams Apple and the Lantern, in nearby Fort Wayne, Indiana. He became friends with Bob Hartman of Petra, and over the next three years, Tim and singer-songwriter, Honeytree, opened for Petra at shows throughout the country. In 1974, Tim recorded his first folk-rock album, Give Me the Words at Superior Sound Studio in Nashville, TN.
Tim then relocated to Jacksonville, FL, and formed the touring southern rock band, The Bonnie Gringo Band, rubbing elbows with southern rock greats like, The Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, and Molly Hatchett and others who would occasionally sit in as they toured the east coast. In 1975, while with the Bonnie Gringo Band, Tim released his second album, One-Eyed Dan the Fiddlin’ Man on Auric Records, Daytona Beach, FL. In 1983 The Bonnie Gringo Band dissolved, and Tim began touring throughout Florida as both a solo act and with a three-piece band as he completed his college degree. In 1990, he played at the Boca Grande Club in southwest Florida. In the audience was Teddy Gentry, bassist of the group Alabama. He told Tim he was interested in producing him. That year Tim also became a songwriter for Alabama’s publishing company, Maypop Music in Nashville, TN.
In 1993 Tim was asked to play guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, and sing backup for the group Alabama, performing approximately 120 live shows per year and countless TV appearances throughout the 1990s, while he and Teddy continued to work on his career as a solo country artist. In 1997, the self titled album Tim Briggs was released on Intersound Nashville / Platinum Records, followed in 1998, by the singles, Couch Potato, and Everything She Needs. Tim continued to tour with Alabama until 2000, and is credited for performing or writing on the following Alabama albums:, 1994, MCA Gold album Skynyrd Frynds; 1996, RCA Platinum album In Pictures; 1996, RCA Gold album Christmas Vol. II; 1997, RCA Platinum album Dancing on the Boulevard, as co-writer One More Time Around, 1998, the DVD For Record: 41 #1 Hits. From 1993 to 1996, Tim was signed to the following record labels: Polydor, Lyric Street, and Magnatone Records.
Tim stepped away from Alabama in 2000, when they announced the band would be retiring, and moved to California, to refocus once again on his music, his interests in photography, and to complete a memoir about his life in music and his touring escapades, all while pursuing a teaching career. Tim’s extensive experience playing rock and roll, folk-rock, southern rock, and country over the last several years contributes to the unique blend of styles in his most recent release, The Long Fall From Grace, scheduled for release, in fall 2024.
